Inspired by the experience of black Civil War soldiers, the visual aesthetics of 19th Century posters, and contemporary hip hop, the award winning writer and historian Imani Perry, visual artist Mario Moore and producer Waajeed have collaborated on a groundbreaking new project. Using hip hop to reimagine the soundscape of battle in the mid-1800s, Moore and Perry negotiate bother the historical record and the idea of what might have been, navigated by Waajeed’s soundscape. It includes lyrics by Perry centering on the Magnolia projects in New Orleans, home to many New Orleans hip hop artists, as well as a monologue by Moore.

This contains two pieces of red vinyl with a full color jacket designed and illustrated by Moore. Limited to 200 copies worldwide. All proceeds from this album will directly benefit the Underground Music Academy in Detroit, MI.
