This publication celebrates the fiftieth anniversay of the Viola E. Bray Gallery, which opened on November 7, 1961. Mrs. Viola E. Bray (1873-1961), a Flint native, avid art collector, and philanthropist, donated nearly sixty Renaissance and Baroque art objects, along with a specially designed gallery to display them. According to one observer at the time of the opening, "The magnificence of the room...awed the spectators." Today, the breathtaking design and scale of the gallery is frequently cited by museum visitors as their most memorable experience at the FIA.
